Great tours guides know how to lead people, manage pressure and stay human.
Tour guiding is equal parts logistics, leadership, storytelling, problem-solving, emotional labour and quietly fixing six things at once while assuring everyone that everything is absolutely fine!
Adventurous Souls creates practical tools, training and resources to help guides lead better, recover properly and build a sustainable life in tourism.
Know Yourself. Lead Better
I’m Rach, creator of Adventurous Souls.
I’m a tour guide, teacher, writer and coach. I’ve spent years learning what it really takes to lead people well, and it all starts within.
Tour guiding is a super fun and exciting job. We get to travel, share stories, build connections, solve problems, see incredible places and help people experience moments they will remember for the rest of their lives.
But behind the smiles, sunsets and group photos, there’s a lot going on.
Guides are managing people, personalities, safety, timing, logistics, emotions, weather, meals, money, medical needs, complaints, changing plans and the strange pressure of being “on” for days or weeks at a time.
We’re expected to bring confidence, warmth and clarity to the group, even on the days when we are tired, uncertain or working things out as we go.
And we are still human.
We have strengths that make us brilliant at the job, but those same strengths can trip us up when we’re tired, stressed or stretched too far. Caring for others can feel like carrying them. Organisation might start feeling a bit like control. Connection comes off like a performance. Resilience becomes depletion. Flexibility turns to frustration.
That is where Adventurous Souls comes in.
I believe great guiding starts with knowing yourself: how you lead, how you respond under pressure, what you naturally bring to a group, where your boundaries disappear and what you need in order to recover and stay on top of your game.
My own learning has come from years of teaching, guiding, travelling, leading groups and doing a great deal of inner work through breath-work, yoga, meditation, movement and other embodied practices. It’s also come from changes in plans, difficult conversations, long seasons, missed turn offs, awkward group moments, bus problems, tired mornings and plenty of humbling experiences along the way.
I don’t teach from theory alone. Let’s be honest, most guides aren’t academics and have no desire to be. I think it’s really important to embody what we offer, especially when we are asking others to trust us.
Adventurous Souls brings together practical guide wellness training, self-awareness, nervous-system support, leadership tools and honest conversations about the realities of working in tourism.
The goal is simple:
To help guides lead better, stay human and build a life chapter in tourism that doesn’t leave them running on empty.
Know yourself. Lead better.
